Final Video

After long work of planning and editing, we've managed to finally upload our clip to youtube to where now everyone will be able to view it.

Filming and Editing

We started filming yesterday all the scene in a open and free room. We managed to film at the scenes and shots that were planned although we did have to make changes as we was on a tight schedule. We had to rush most of the work as we were reaching towards the end of break. We managed to get all the shots we wanted and one extra scene. At the end of the free lesson, Issac started editing the clips putting them together which then today i will be able to go through and make changes.

For the first scene, we decided to use a shot of a flower, although the weather has made it difficult to get a shot of the flowers together. So i went outside and got a shot of the camera unfocused then moving into focus. The we added the title which we decided to be "Conflict" which is displayed center screen with the text being which and we was going for a 'classic fancy' text. to which we both had title and scene fade in and out just in time for the next scene.

We are now still editing the scene by adding editing effects and a soundtrack. We did make a change with the extreme close up of the female characters eyes and we did the whole head moving instead of just the eyes, we then also slowed the time of that shot and then also made the scene black and white. We've also added an additive dissolve effect and another effect to focus the shot more on the females characters eyes.

The next scene will just be the male character  talking to the female character, the only effect we added was to enhance the colors which have been used in all the shots.

The next scene will be the female character talking to the male character with the exact same effects which the previous scene used.

This shot will be a long shot of each of the characters arguing with each other. This scene will be muted as well as the next which the soundtrack will increase to its original volume.

The final scene will be the title scene, which the music will fade out as well as the title sequence will will being the clip to the end.

Dialogue Ideas

For the dialogue ideas we decided to come up with 3 different types each and then come together and pick our favorite ones of each others. We still wanting the main idea to be focused around the couple arguing over their relationship whether it be cheating etc.

Daniel's Idea (Me) -

Idea 1:
Male: Whats wrong?
Female: I have something to tell you…
Male: Well spill I don’t have all day….
Female: … I slept with James…
Male:…..

Issac's Idea -

Idea 2:
Male: What’s the matter Babe?
Female: Don’t you babe me, I’m still mad about last night
Male: I thought that was sorted
Female: You went off with someone else at that party
Male: I was Drunk!?*! %?*!..... I wasn't thinking properly
Female: That still doesn't mean we are back together, I’m not even sure I still want to be with you

After discussion, we have decided to pick Issac's idea and expand upon it. This is what we have come up with -

Male: What’s the matter Babe?
Female: Don’t you babe me, I’m still mad about last night
Male: I thought that was sorted
Female: You went off with someone else at that party
Male: I was Drunk!?*! %?*!..... I wasn't thinking properly
Female: That still doesn't mean we back together, I’m not even sure I still want to be with you

Now that we have decided on all the planning, it's time we begin filming tomorrow afternoon.

Storyboard - Putting it together

We've discussed the scenes and shot we would be using by putting both our ideas together from each others storyboard. The scenes we would be using are as follow -

Starting scene would be my opening scene with a change so that it's not flowers as the weather has been unpredictable at the moment so we have decided to go with a field of snow, then the title fading in.
The next scene would be my shots of the male character opening the door from both sides being inside and out side. Then we decided to use Issac's mid shot of the male characters upper body to show his costume and dress wear. Then we will be using my shots of the females eyes following the male character round the room and my my shot of the male character revealing his face while sitting down. The next shot will be a combined shot of mine and Issac's shots of the over the shoulder shots. The we will be using my ending shots and title scene of the music and title sequence fading out.

Storyboard

We have started creating storyboards to plan the sequence for each shot in the scene. Both me and Issac have decided to create a storyboard of the scene getting both our idea at the end of the day and choosing which shots to use in the final product.

Shot 1: The first shot f the scene will be a title sequence that will fade in and will include and close up of 2 or more flowers bunched together and the wind blowing then around. After 3 seconds of the static shot of the flowers, the title of the scene will fade into the shot. The colour of the title is still yet undecided as well as the font.

Shot 2: The second shot will be faded in and will be a static shot of a close up of the door handle and the male hand moving into the scene from the right to the left. The male will then start to open the door and will then do a straight cut to the other scene to continue the door opening.

Shot 3: The Third shot will continue on from the second shot of the male character opening the shot. The shot will be a mid shot of the male characters body but cutting out the males head leaving the character mysterious and builds tension. The character will start to move towards the chair which is seen in this shot. The door will be left open in this scene as it shows carelessness of the male character

Shot 4: This shot includes the very first shot we see of the other character. We see that she is a female due to the long hair and makeup. This shot is an extreme close up of the females character eyes. We see that she has been crying due to the messed up make up meaning that the male character has done something wrong to upset her in this state. This leaves the audience thinking what the character has done to make her cry which the next following scene will explain the situation. Also the female characters eye will be following the males eyes walk and sit down.

Shot 5: Following up the other shot, we see the male character walk and sit down. This is the first shot we see of the male character face. He will then show facial expressions of being upset (suppose crying) and anger. This shot will be a mid shot as we need the males head to be hidden at the start of the scene and will need to see some of the males characters facial expressions.

Shot 6: This shot will be the same shot as shot 5 but the camera will then pan towards the female character. This shot will be the first shot we see of the female character full face, hair and clothing. From this shot we can see that she is looking rather rough by her hair and make up suggesting that she gas been really upset. The shot will then follow up with dialogue which we still need to plan.

Shot 7: This shot will be a focus shot of the females mobile phone which is on the table. The shot will then focus on the male character which then dialogue from the male character replying to the females question. In this scene we see the male character starting to express more anger.
Shot 8: This shot will be an over the shoulder shot of the male character looking at the female character listening to her response to his reply. Well then start to see conflict between the two characters and arguing is now taken place as the two now argue about their relationship both showing anger and frustration.
Shot 9: This show will be exactly the same as the last one showing and revealing more about the characters history between each other but now over the female characters shoulder.
Shot 10: This will be the final shot of the scene between the couple which will be muted and will have the soundtrack which is played throughout the scene increase in sound. The camera will then pan outwards pointing towards the window and will show and wide long shot of the couple arguing showing more and more anger between the two. The shot will then fade out into the ending scene.
Shot 11: This will be the ending shot of the scene which will then show "The End" in white with a black background. The soundtrack will now start to fade out as well as the ending title and will be the end of the video.

Planning The Scene

Planning the scene

I have decided to pair with Issac Stutchbury to work with through this task. We started planning the task by brainstorming the sequence on how each character will be introduced to the scene and which camera angles/ movement to use to express each of the characters emotions and the relationship between them both. We did this by going through different relationship scenes and bonds between two characters. We then finally decided that the scene will be about the story of a male cheating on his girlfriend and her confronting him about it.

Editing and Camera plan

For the editing, we have decided to start the scene by fading in with a static shot of the door handle then the male character's hand moving into the scene opening the door. The background music will be played through-out the whole scene until the fade out. The shot will then do a straight cut to the other side of the door of the male role continue opening the door. We decided to leave the male character's head out of the shot as this will create a tense scene as with the next shot will be an extreme close up of the female characters eyes. This shot will show the make-up and her facial expressions and how she reacts to the male character walking into the scene. Her eyes will follow him round the room until he is seat to which the shot will then jump and a low angle shot of the female character showing the her body language and costume she is using. The shot will then jump to a mid-shot of the male character sitting down and as he does so, the males head will finally be revealed to the audience. The camera will then pan towards to the female character which she will then start the conversation/arguing between them both. The next few shots will be over the shoulder shot of the two characters arguing between one another. The background music will then rise up and will mute the sounds in the scene to then which both the music and the scene will fade out.

Background story of the scene

The story still needs to be planned more, but for now the story would be relationship problem as to maybe the boy had cheated on the girl so she had to confront him for the first time. This will cause a lot of tension and suspense as this scene will be showing a lot of emotion ranging from rage to sadness. We decided this as we would be able to play around with the camera angles showing the emotion between the two and the frustration of the girl.

Music / Sound effects

After planning the story behind the scene, we decided to plan the music which would be played in the background of the scene and the costume for each character. The music we had chosen is undecided as we couldn't figure which song would be best to represent sadness and love in the scene. The choices was either between Coldplay – Paradise (instrumental) or between Snow patrol – Chasing Cars, ideas are still going through our heads and these songs might not be used in the final product.

Clothing

For clothing, we had originally planned the female to be in a long dress with extreme make up but as we started developing the story and the situation we had gone for a more casual look with the female wearing a shorter dress with skinny jean and converse type shoes. For make-up, we had decided the make-up round her eyes should be somewhat 'smudged' to make it look as though she had been crying, also roughed-up hair showing her stress over the situation. We had also decided the female should be wearing accessories such as necklaces, wrist bands etc.

The boy on the other hand, we planned him to have a roughed up looking with ripped jeans, denim jacket, hoodie. We still need to plan more with the males role in this. As seen to the right, the male has the right clothing design we have planned for the character to look like. We also planned the guy to be an average body build although we never finalised this idea. The male would also be wearing accessories such as necklaces and wrist bands.
