Planning The Scene

Planning the scene

I have decided to pair with Issac Stutchbury to work with through this task. We started planning the task by brainstorming the sequence on how each character will be introduced to the scene and which camera angles/ movement to use to express each of the characters emotions and the relationship between them both. We did this by going through different relationship scenes and bonds between two characters. We then finally decided that the scene will be about the story of a male cheating on his girlfriend and her confronting him about it.

Editing and Camera plan

For the editing, we have decided to start the scene by fading in with a static shot of the door handle then the male character's hand moving into the scene opening the door. The background music will be played through-out the whole scene until the fade out. The shot will then do a straight cut to the other side of the door of the male role continue opening the door. We decided to leave the male character's head out of the shot as this will create a tense scene as with the next shot will be an extreme close up of the female characters eyes. This shot will show the make-up and her facial expressions and how she reacts to the male character walking into the scene. Her eyes will follow him round the room until he is seat to which the shot will then jump and a low angle shot of the female character showing the her body language and costume she is using. The shot will then jump to a mid-shot of the male character sitting down and as he does so, the males head will finally be revealed to the audience. The camera will then pan towards to the female character which she will then start the conversation/arguing between them both. The next few shots will be over the shoulder shot of the two characters arguing between one another. The background music will then rise up and will mute the sounds in the scene to then which both the music and the scene will fade out.

Background story of the scene

The story still needs to be planned more, but for now the story would be relationship problem as to maybe the boy had cheated on the girl so she had to confront him for the first time. This will cause a lot of tension and suspense as this scene will be showing a lot of emotion ranging from rage to sadness. We decided this as we would be able to play around with the camera angles showing the emotion between the two and the frustration of the girl.

Music / Sound effects

After planning the story behind the scene, we decided to plan the music which would be played in the background of the scene and the costume for each character. The music we had chosen is undecided as we couldn't figure which song would be best to represent sadness and love in the scene. The choices was either between Coldplay – Paradise (instrumental) or between Snow patrol – Chasing Cars, ideas are still going through our heads and these songs might not be used in the final product.

Clothing

For clothing, we had originally planned the female to be in a long dress with extreme make up but as we started developing the story and the situation we had gone for a more casual look with the female wearing a shorter dress with skinny jean and converse type shoes. For make-up, we had decided the make-up round her eyes should be somewhat 'smudged' to make it look as though she had been crying, also roughed-up hair showing her stress over the situation. We had also decided the female should be wearing accessories such as necklaces, wrist bands etc.

The boy on the other hand, we planned him to have a roughed up looking with ripped jeans, denim jacket, hoodie. We still need to plan more with the males role in this. As seen to the right, the male has the right clothing design we have planned for the character to look like. We also planned the guy to be an average body build although we never finalised this idea. The male would also be wearing accessories such as necklaces and wrist bands.
